“Glacier Soundscapes” by Jill Haley
Glacier Soundscapes is performer/composer, Jill Haley‘s newest release and it is wonderful. Jill Haley is a professional Oboe and English Horn performer and composer who has been working in the musical field for over 20 years. In addition to a CD done with the help of her husband, guitarist David Cullen, Jill Haley has put out six albums with the other two members of the band, One Alternative. She has helped with releases at the music studio Windham Hill Records, at the behest of its creator, Will Ackerman and more than a few orchestra’s call on her to fill their Oboe section. With such a diverse and brilliant career behind her, is it any wonder that Glarier Soundscapes, created to bring life to the Glacier National Park, is such a joy to listen
to?

“Part of the Story” by The Tell
FLASHBACK!!! For me, The Tell‘s “Part of the Story” was hard to listen to at first. It took several attempts, not because it is so horrible to listen to, because it is not. But it is one of those that keeps you locked in a time warp of sorts. For those who have gone through the “acid days” this could be a good or bad trip–no pun intended.
It has the feel of a live performance in that their timing and pitch are off in many areas. But, in this world of computers, everyone expects perfection; all notes, words, etc must be perfectly hit on the same beat. While this is ok, this also eliminates the human factor. All that is missing is the scratchy noises we of the ancient generations are used to on vinyl records. I think that would have helped the overall feel of the CD.
