After listening to the new release of
MaterDea's “Below the Mists, Above the
Brambles”, I felt very relaxed and calm. I loved the mixture of different instruments, nature sounds, and beautiful vocal scores.
The emotion and the music intertwine to put the body in a relaxing state and washes over the
listener. The way the artists represent the elements and nature in their music is
intoxicating. The combination of Simon Papa and Marco Strega's voices are very
soothing. This used with the music and the background singing strings together a full bodied mixture of relaxation and tranquility.
I enjoyed how I felt at one with the songs and the nature being portrayed within the music.

Jami
Sieber’s third album, Hidden Sky , will transport you to another realm, full of miniscule worlds from the first note of
“Maenam”. These musical worlds combine dark with light, war with peace, each interconnected yet separate. The darkness, reflected in the droning cries of her cello. The light in ethereal voices. This song draws you in and sets the mood for the entire album. From Thailand to Zimbabwe each element is perfectly created. While contemplative, it remains a delight to listen to and an escape from our mundane lives.
“Out of the
Mist” continues with the addition of Light. The addition of strings and other percussion which glides over top over her cello . This begins the journey. Sunrise on the horizon as we begin the day.
While working with several well known musicians, this collaboration includes our friends, the Mandlovu. The word means elephant in the Zimbabwean language of N”debele. Thai Elephant Orchestra appear in the songs
“Sukhothai Rain” and
“A Common
Music”. Jami recorded the elephants for these two beautifully mixed songs. Who knew elephants could drum or play xylophone? Jami understands the connection between elephants and all species.

Steeped in culture and rich with history, Volva Songs EP strikes a chord for anyone who has ever been interested in the northern countries like Norway, and
Iceland. Have you have ever wondered what kinds of songs the early Vikings might have sung around a campfire? In my opinion, I don't think you can get much closer than
Volva Songs EP. Volva is Old Norse for “Staff Carrier”, what we could consider a bard or
storyteller. Kari uses the staff as a rhythm instrument, a method she calls “Volva
Stav”.
She explains: “My work as Volva gently pulls the threads of our indigenous European tapestry, mends them to our immigrant memories, and spins a new thread for our children that is true, restores identity, and creates cultural
healing. ”
